On Friday 27 May 2011 NIST BISAC and SEASAC athletes gathered at the Landmark hotel to celebrate a particularly eventful and successful year in sports. NIST coaches and administration staff proudly presented awards to those athletes selected as ‘Most Improved Player’ (MIP) and ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) from the extensive range of sport teams. In the BISAC division MIP and MVP awards were presented to players from: Gymnastics, Track and Field, Tennis, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. In the SEASAC division awards where presented to players from: Softball, Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Touch Rugby, Badminton, Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball. Teams put together wonderful video montages of their season in sports to be shown alongside the presentation of the trophies. NIST proudly welcomed a world-renowned athlete, former NBA Lakers player Ike Nwankwo as the guest speaker for the evening. Ike spoke candidly and honestly on the “role sports has played in his life” providing the teams with the message that to achieve your dreams you have to show determination and hard work. The evening came to its culmination with the presentation of the NIST Boys/Girls Sportsmanship Award, presented by Jocelyn Parfaite from the NIST Parent and Teacher Association (NIPTA); and finally the NIST Boys/Girls Athlete of the Year award, which was presented by the Headmaster- Mr. Simon Leslie. Emily Chen and Matthew Christensen were awarded for their outstanding sportsmanship, and Samantha Calvet and Christoph Durrenmatt were presented with the coveted ‘Athlete’ of the year award.
