| On the last two school days of 2006, 42 Year 12 students and 4 chaperones went on the first ever voluntary CAS field trip. After having finished their trial exams, many of them felt that the physical labor was a pleasant change to the academic demands of the previous days. The school we visited is located in Prachinburi, a mere two hours trip from Bangkok. We left the school at 7.30 and arrived at 10.30 to immediately start the work on the improvement of the school’s facilities. The work included building walls, removing large quantities of earth and replacing it with tons of concrete, and the preparation of food for the 46 souls that needed to be fed. The Year 12 students worked really hard to get the work done before our return to NIST on late Saturday afternoon. A soccer and volleyball match on Friday afternoon, followed by a party organized by the parents of the school gave the students a chance to relax from the strenuous work performed during the day. As the administration of the school was very pleased with the work done, the students ought to be congratulated on their accomplishments and cooperative approach throughout the three days of community and service work. Well done! |
