International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum

NIST is guided by several excellent curricular designs giving structure and continuity to our academic programmes. These allow sufficient flexibility for the school to make modifications appropriate to the needs of our students, and to ensure that relevant material is included.

Primary Years Programme

The Elementary Section (Early Years to Year 6) has selected the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme as the basic instruction. This section serves students aged* 3 to 10.

Middle Years Programme

In the Lower Secondary, a balanced and challenging curriculum is presented via a wide range of academic and non-academic subjects. Emphasis is on developing independent thinking, the ability to evaluate knowledge, and on mastery of skills. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme was introduced in August 1997, and provides a five-year pathway leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma. This section serves students aged* 11 to 15.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The Upper Secondary School follows the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Students may follow the full IB Diploma course, or individual IB Certificate courses at any one of two levels of difficulty. This section serves students aged* 16 to 18.

* Age limits are determined for students for the academic year - August 1 to July 31.
