World Languages

NIST
currently has the most extensive World Language teaching
programme of any international school in Thailand.
As per the IB PYP curriculum, NIST students start a second
language in Year 2, which is either a learned language or mother
tongue.
Students whose mother tongue language is offered by NIST, must
take that World Language A, thus enabling them to develop
academically in their first language. Thai students, enrolled
with a Thai passport, must study Thai A in line with the Thai
Ministry of Education Requirements. (*There are other mother
tongue languages available through private tutoring at
additional cost. Please see below.)
Students whose mother tongue is not offered in NIST's World
Language A programme must choose from the Language B programme.
Upon application to the school, we ask that students indicate
their three language choices in order of preference. Your choice
will be discussed with you during the admissions process.
The following languages are taught as a regular part of the
curriculum:
Language A = Mother Tongue ● Language B = Learned
Language
*Currently, and in
previous years,
students have learned
the following languages by special arrangement with the school.
