World Languages
NIST currently has the most extensive World Language teaching programme of any international school in Thailand.
As per the IB PYP curriculum, NIST students start a second language in Year 2, which is either a learned language or mother tongue.
Students whose mother tongue language is offered by NIST, must take that World Language A, thus enabling them to develop academically in their first language. Thai students, enrolled with a Thai passport, must study Thai A in line with the Thai Ministry of Education Requirements. (*There are other mother tongue languages available through private tutoring at additional cost. Please see below.)
Students whose mother tongue is not offered in NIST's World Language A programme must choose from the Language B programme. Upon application to the school, we ask that students indicate their three language choices in order of preference. Your choice will be discussed with you during the admissions process.
The following languages are taught as a regular part of the curriculum: Language A = Mother Tongue ● Language B = Learned Language
