do an Investigation Work Book? Students from Pan Asia International School
visited our yr 12 students at NIST to share the concept behind their recent
RELATIONSHIP exhibition and discuss their studies in IB Visual Arts. It was very
interesting and gave students from both parties a whole new perspective.

Congratulations ! to the Falcon Golf Team on their fantastic team performance at
the SEASAC Golf Tournament held on the 27th and 28th
November at the Watermill Golf Resort and Gardens. Not only did our golfers
retain the championship, our students maintained the high standards of
sportsmanship and team spirit necessary to be successful.

NIST Dives in and Helps

Saturday October 2nd saw 58 NIST
students and faculty participating in the Right To Play Charity Swimathon
organized by Total Body Training at our own NIST pool. Together our swimmers
raised an impressive 28,917 baht! Right To Play

is an international organization working in Thailand to improve the lives of
children in some of the most disadvantaged areas by using the power of sport and
play for development, health and peace.

Former NBA Basketball player at
NIST 7/10/10
Last
Tuesday Ike Nwankwo a former NBA Basketball player( LA Lakers, UCLA) came to
NIST to give a basketball clinic to the Under 15 boys team. Ike was an
inspiration to the boys not only helping with their game but also by giving
insight into the life of a professional athlete. NIST Basketball is looking
forward to developing a long term basketball relationship with him.

to our Falcon Golfers for their performances at the annual NIST – Bromsgrove
Match played on Sept 30th at Muang Kaew Golf course. Our team shot
some good scores and had a very worthwhile day, with team spirit and bonding
being a major Golf team focus for the event.

Beneath the
Surface
22/09/10
NIST IB Visual Arts students had the opportunity to make
in-depth investigations into Thai and International art at an exhibition titled
‘Surface Depth’ at H Gallery on Sathorn. The students experienced a packed
program of talks with the curator Dr. Brian Curtin and several of the artist’s
in the show and work with students from other International Schools in the area.
Every student participated in creating a ‘design as program’ with British Time
Based Artist Nigel Power and Rachabadin Sirinarinthon in Yr 12 was the winner
of the game ‘Lucky You’ which Thai Artist Pornpraseart Yamakazi had designed
specifically for the students on that day.

Well Done ! to our Falcon
Swimmers who performed very well at the Division Circuit Super Q2010 that was
held on 4th - 5th Sep, many of our swimmers achieved medal place finishes, and
our Falcon U19 and U17 volleyball and soccer teams
that competed with the other top international schools in Bangkok at the
Friendship RIS tournament, and U17 volleyball friendship tournament. The NIST
teams showed early season promise with good experience gained. The U19 Girls
Soccer and Volleyball were Champions with all the other teams placing
well. Well done ! to our students….
 
Visiting Artist at NIST 08/09/10
Contemporary printer Ralph Kiggell has been exhibiting in the
Atrium and working with our students over the past week. Ralph is famed for
revitalizing traditional wood block printing and he shared a repertoire of
techniques which he learnt in Japan with the students. Both students and
teachers thoroughly enjoyed Ralph’s workshop and the experience.

NIST is pleased to support H galSurface
Depth promises a nuanced and critical view of how it is intended that we
understand, and therefore reflect on, the world we live in. The diversity of the
artists is a key to the impact of Surface Depth and includes recent Bangkok
émigré Simon Larbalestier, famed for his photographs for music albums, and Arin
Rungjang, whose work with space and representation has been selected for
inclusion in the 3rd Singapore Biennale 2011. As well as Thailand, the artists
hail from New York, Britain and Italy.lery

Visual Arts Student's Out and About ...

Arts Diploma Students meet, eat and create with leading Thai artist
Rirkrit Tiravanija at
his latest exhibition currently on display at 100 Tonson Gallery. Rirkrit and
gallery director Ek-Anong
Phanachet were delighted to accommodate NIST students. Lots of questions were
asked and answered by all parties and the students left inspired after
witnessing firsthand the immense murals which filled the gallery walls from
floor to ceiling.

Visiting Artist at NIST 25/08/10
Our first
in a series this year, local artist Elsie Evan’s came in for one week and
exhibited her expressive Bangkok observation oil paintings in our Creative Arts
Building. Elsie enjoyed chatting with students from all ages throughout the week
and shared her skills and experience with the Diploma students. Elsie will be
coming in to assist with the life drawing ECA from the first week of September
which will be held on Mondays.
