Trashion ShowTues 8th & Wed 9th June

NIST Fashion Show 2010  01/02/10

This year the fashion will take place on the 1st and 2nd of June and the theme is ...fashion from recycled materialsHere are examples of some inspiring pieces of fashion created by using recycled old materials:

The basic idea of trashion show is that the participating designers have to make their clothes out of 80% recycled materials. This could mean that you could use old fabric or anything that has been used before. The money that is raised from the ticket sales for the trashion show will go to Habitat For Humanity which will support their goal.

The designers that will participate could work individually or in smalll groups. We are hoping to have ten different kinds of collections made by NIST students which will be presented in the fashion show. We look forward to your participation in the fashion show and making this event a big success.

Jackie Chan Speaks to NIST Students 13/11/09

NIST students heard an inspiring talk by Jackie Chan followed by a dialogue session with him. Jackie Chan’s visit to NIST was part of the third ASEAN event series "Bridges - Dialogues towards a Culture of Peace”.

A well-known actor, philanthropist, and Goodwill Ambassador Jackie Chan talked to Year 12 and Year 13 students, as well as drama and art students from the lower secondary school on the topic “Art and Culture as a Pathway towards Peace.”

Linking his work to peace building, he shared with students how, in each of his recent movies, he has tried to give hidden messages to teach values to his audience, especially the young. Students enjoyed the very frank talk with Chan and were able to ask him questions on both personal and global issues.

MOvember:  Staff Action at NIST 2/11/09

If you notice some of our male staff looking a little different in November, do not panic. This month at NIST, some male staff (and students) are rallying together to engage in an awareness and fund- raising programme for MOvember, the celebration of the moustache.

MOvember is a global, annual, month-long charity drive highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression.  ‘Mo Bros’  (participating males and sponsors) supported by their Mo Sistas (female sponsors and supportive partners), start MOvember on November 1st. They must begin clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache.

During MOvember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard for men’s health and, via
their Mo, raises essential funds and awareness for significant men’s health issues of prostate cancer and depression.

Watch out for changes and growth around the campus!

Blast Off Elementary Musical 29/10/09

On October 14 and 15,  120 Year 4,5 and 6 students blasted off into outer space on an intergalactic adventure to bring home some Jupiter Rock! The audiences of two sold out shows were treated to an adventure of cosmic proportions and some fine individual and group performances. “Blast Off the Musical” was a huge success and a great experience for all students and teachers involved. Our only problem now is where do we store a giant 30 foot rocket??? Thanks to the NIPTA Arts committee for all their support and to Mr Mark, Mr Craig, Mr Josh, Miss Annie and Miss Nina, who all put in a lot of effort over the ten weeks.

Artist of the Moment

Henrik Romhild Year 12

"I was inspired by the famous photographer, Sebastião Salgado. His intention was to take images of dark, harsh, and tough situations to create thought provoking photographs. Bangkok has many areas where you can capture interesting photos that relate to the work Salgado. This unit was based on the theme of ‘Justice’. I believe that Poverty is a huge issue in Thailand and thought that would be a worthy theme for my photographs. It took a lot of experimentation and research before I could come up with these final photographs. The purpose was not only to show that poverty exists, but to make the images artistic as well. I did this by showing emotions through; different body parts, including texts, editing and manipulating the images. Overall I am very satisfied with my final result."
