CREATIVITY FUSED WITH TALENT AND LOTS OF ENERGY AT LEADERSHIP OF THE ARTS FESTIVAL
On 5 and 6 February 2011, NIST hosted the Leadership of the Arts Festival (LAF), a weekend initiated and organised by Emily Chen (Year 13) to
encourage talented students to share their artistic skills with other students in Bangkok international schools. Participating schools included Concordian International
School (CIS), Ruamrudee International School (RIS), International Community School (ICS) and Thai-Chinese International School (TCIS). Nearly 100 students from all over
Bangkok attended both days. This student-led festival featured numerous workshops and performances, from dance, acappella, singing, and instrumental music to film,
acting, photography, graffiti, theatre lighting and ‘Stomp’ (musical theatre of choreographed percussion, movement and physical comedy).
On Monday 7 February all the students returned to NIST’s theatre to present the products of their weekend’s work. It proved to
be two hours of thoroughly enjoyable entertainment as students from different schools joined together to demonstrate their artistic skills
to an audience of nearly 200 peers, teachers and parents. The quality of the performances was excellent, and the event left everyone
impressed by the fact that a busy Year 13 student could find the time to share her passion for the arts by creating an opportunity for
students to learn from other students. Emily created a very powerful process based on trust and respect for each other that allowed for
meaningful collaboration. It was clear from the farewells at the end of the performance that everyone had fun, enjoyed the learning experience
and made new friends in the world of the arts.
