Cafeteria

The NIST cafeteria service is provided by an outside catering company and is closely monitored by the school administration, together with the Health & Safety Committee of the NIST Parent Teacher Association (NIPTA). Emphasis is put on healthy snack and lunch options and catering to the various dietary restrictions of our international community.

Following our announcement at the end of the 2008/2009 school year, a new cafeteria provider has been appointed, the cafeteria renovated and a new meal service put in place.  Below are the details of the new food service for all year levels.

ELEMENTARY CAFETERIA SERVICE

Elementary meal plan:  This meal plan includes a morning snack (milk, fruit and carbohydrate) and a buffet style lunch at 85B a day. The lunch selections include several hot dishes to choose from; and salad, fruit and dessert bars.  The Elementary meal plan will be served in the Upstairs Cafeteria only.

Elementary students do not have access to the Breezeway (Lower Cafeteria) during school hours as it is coupon-based and reserved for the a la carte meal service for Secondary students, staff, parents, and visitors.

Prior to (7–7:30am) and after school (2:30–4:30pm) Year 3 – Year 6 students are able to purchase food and drinks in the Breezeway with coupons. There will be no access to coupon-purchased food for Elementary during school hours, only the meal plan.

If not on the meal plan, Elementary students may bring food from home to be consumed in the Upstairs Cafeteria.

The meal plan is available for purchase at the Old Library from August 3–14, 2009 between 7am and 3pm.  After August 14, the meal plan can be purchased in the Cafeteria office on the second floor of Building 5.

SECONDARY, STAFF AND PARENTS CAFETERIA SERVICE

A La Carte Meals, snacks, and a variety of drinks will be sold by coupon in the Breezeway (Lower Cafeteria) for Secondary students, Staff and Parents during Morning Break, Lunch Break, and Crossover periods.

At the onset, Secondary students will not have access to the meal plan in order to allow our new food providers to settle in. After two weeks of the new service, the School will evaluate whether or not the meal plan can be offered to Secondary students as an option. We envisage that it will be a popular meal programme and we will endeavor to open it up to all students and staff as soon as possible.

However, in the meantime, PLEASE NOTE:

Secondary students will only be allowed in the Lower Cafeteria (Breezeway) - no access to the Upstairs Cafeteria. All food and drink is purchased with coupons. Coupons will be available for purchase at the school shop from August 3–14, 2009 between 7am and 3pm and then, after August 14, 2009, in the Breezeway.

EARLY YEAR STUDENTS

EY 1

The meals for EY1 students are delivered to the Early Childhood Centre. There will be a special menu to provide the best possible food choices for this age group.

EY 2

EY2 students will be escorted to the Upstairs Cafeteria for lunch.

In addition to the new food service, we also have exciting news regarding our NIST environmental programme. From August 10, 2009, onwards, bottled water will no longer be on sale in the Cafeteria and only recyclable materials will be used for food sales. This follows on from student initiatives to limit plastic bottles on campus. All students, staff and parents will need to bring their own refillable water bottles (NIST bottles are on sale in the School shop).
