Field Trips

field trip

Learning “beyond the classroom” is an integral part of the school curriculum and all students are involved in field trips. At NIST, Field trips are included in the tuition fees and are not charged as an extra fee (with the exception of the Secondary Ski trip).

Early Years & Elementary

In the Elementary school, there is at least one field trip incorporated into each unit of inquiry. Parental help is valued, and teachers may ask for suggestions and volunteers.

Secondary

All Year 7-11 students are expected to participate in the “Week on the Wild Side” field trips that take place in early December. Throughout the school year, there are also a number of other field trips that support curriculum work and student development. If your son/ daughter is going on a field trip that involves leaving school, you will be expected to sign a permission slip attached to the bottom of an information letter or an overnight stay form.

Ski Trip

We all had a great first day. The visibility was poor but the snow was great. The staff/instructors have all been really impressed with our students saying that they are all very polite, nice and encouraging to each other. Despite the conditions they never complained and all have been determined to conquer the mountain. They continue to be in good spirits this evening albeit a little tired.

It has been snowing non-stop since we the group arrived. Some runs were closed yesterday but the students had another fantastic day out and many are picking up the new skill very quickly. It was -4C on the mountain and the powdery snow is several feet deep.
Today the NIST ski trip group had a glorious day at the slopes. The beginners are improving a lot from the first day. The more advanced group are making their way through the exotic slopes. The condition at the slopes was superb. There was a tad bit of snow fall and wind, but by the end of the day the sky was lucid. Then after that we returned to Les Elfes and had some munchies. After everyone got changed, they had a choice of activities. After an awesome dinner by the wonderful chef, we had the torch light walk. We went to the peak of Verbier. Then we came back down and warmed ourselves up and some of us went straight to bed, but some of us were still up playing some games with their friends until bed time. It was a great day and everyone is looking up to another great day of skiing and snow boarding at the slopes. (By KK, Peerapat and Andree)
