Admissions Process

If we are able to move your application forward, your Admissions representative will email you login details to the Admissions Portal. The login details will be provided to you securely, and we ask that you do not share these details.

Step 2 sees you completing the Full Application form online, and providing further documentation, including but not limited to:

• School report/s
• Recommendation form/s, provided by NIST, to be completed by your child/ren’s current teachers
• A medical form, provided by NIST, to be completed by parent/s noting any allergies, medication, etc
• Identity document/s such as passport, birth certificate or Thai Identity Card 
• Any relevant legal document/s
• Any other documents that may support the application, such as IEP, psychoeducational report, etc.

At this stage, the Admissions representative will confidentially discuss with you the documents you have submitted. We ask Bangkok-based families to upload their visa and/or work permit documents accordingly. If you are moving from overseas, we know these will follow at a later stage.

Please note the full application process will incur a THB 6,000 non-refundable application fee.

All applicants are encouraged, at this stage, to discuss any requirements your child/ren may have within the school campus to ensure we can cater for their individual needs. 

After completing the full application online, and after discussing your application with your Admissions representative, our Admissions Committee will review the completed application. 

This review is an important step, as the individual application is considered in light of the unique individual child. We are not only looking to see if the child can “fit” into our school, we are looking to see if they are the “right fit”. We want to provide a learning environment where your child can flourish, whether that is by providing support services or by providing additional enrichment activities, it is at this stage that we can determine their unique needs.

We are also considering the child’s age and year level, space availability within their year group or class, their English language proficiency, previous school records and/or recommendations, nationality, and academic ability. Other factors taken into account may also include IB programme experience, World Language selection, and past extracurricular or community involvement.

If you have more than one child applying, we will be trying to ensure we can fit all siblings; and for past or current NIST families, we also consider sibling relationships within the school and alumni communities.

The length of time taken for this process varies depending on the time of year you apply, and your Admissions team representative will be in contact letting you know how your application is progressing. 

Please know NIST’s overarching aim is to create a community of as many diverse perspectives as possible, and we are therefore considering all aspects of your child’s application. Your child’s unique application will be considered in accordance with the school’s admissions criteria, and we will be able to determine if we are able to proceed to the next step, and invite your child for an assessment.

After successfully completing the above steps, student candidates will be invited to sit for an admissions assessment and/or an interview. The Admissions team will brief you on what this assessment entails, depending on the age of the child and their year level. 

In some cases, this assessment stage will help the Admissions team determine the child’s educational abilities, and any additional enrichment or learning support your student may need, such as English as an additional language (EAL) assistance. 

Elementary school assessments are conducted one-on-one or in small groups, and will take place at the NIST campus or, in certain circumstances, can be conducted online if the applicant is not in Bangkok. 

Secondary students will be asked to complete a test relevant to their grade level. The school assessment and test will be conducted at NIST, or if the student is not at school in Bangkok the Admissions team can, in certain cases, arrange for the assessment to be taken at the applicant’s current school. 

All candidates must pay an assessment fee of THB 2,500, which is non-refundable regardless of entry to the school. Please note that the admissions assessment material is confidential and considered to be the property of the school.

After reviewing the assessment results, along with the full application, the Admissions Committee will make a final decision as to whether or not a place will be offered to your child. Again, at this stage, we are looking to see if your child will flourish within our school community as we are looking for students and families who can contribute meaningfully to our community. We strive to maintain a mix of students who represent diversity in nationality, and who demonstrate and represent international mindedness.

When considering applications, there are many factors to be considered in order to ensure your child’s unique needs match with the availability of resources and services at the school. We want to ensure we can provide a learning pathway that will match your child’s unique individual needs.

If your child is not able to join NIST at this stage, they may be placed in our wait pool, and Admissions will be in contact with you if an opening comes up in the future.

You will be notified as soon as possible of the decision made by our Admissions Committee. If the application is successful, and all documents requested by the school have been submitted, a place will be offered to your child/ren and you will receive an Acceptance Letter outlining the steps you can take to accept the offer.

In line with the NIST Conditions of Acceptance, you will have a limited time period in which to accept the offer. When you do accept the offer, we will ask for certain fees to be paid in order to secure the space, and these steps will be explained in detail by your Admissions representative.

Nearing your child/ren’s start date, your Admissions representative will forward you details on how to complete your enrolment online. This is an important step in preparing for your child/ren’s first day at NIST. We ask that you complete your online enrolment as soon as possible, and your Admissions representative will help if you have any difficulties. Once you have completed your online enrolment, you will be given access to our Parent Portal, Veracross. 

The Parent Portal is where you will access your child/ren’s schedule, staff and teacher directories, and community contact details, and you will be able to sign up for catering services, extracurricular activities, and parent-teacher meetings. As a new NIST member you will be offered training on this, as well as other systems within our school network.
