Earth Week 2026 at NIST International School in Bangkok

In recognition of Earth Day on 22 April 2026, NIST International School in Bangkok came together to mark Earth Week, with activities across 20–24 April that invited our community to pause, reflect, and take meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.

NIST Earth Week 2026 was guided by a more reflective approach, highlighting our ongoing journey towards environmental sustainability as a school community.

Across campus, learning extended beyond the classroom. The week brought students, parents, and staff together through shared experiences, with student agency at the centre, reinforcing our responsibility as a community and as global citizens. NIST connects academics, Service-Learning, and wellbeing through its Learning Programme, encouraging thoughtful action that supports both people and the planet.

From Early Years to Year 13, students explored how small, intentional choices, when taken collectively, can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world.

A Week Grounded in Purpose

This year’s Earth Week was grounded in three guiding questions that encouraged our community to continue learning, reflecting, and taking action towards environmental sustainability.

Alongside celebrating existing student-led groups and projects, the community collected data, reflected together, and made pledges for continued action. As we look ahead, we continue to ask, how can we do better, together?

Responsible Consumption

The week began by recognising how our community is already making a difference. Through interactive learning booths led by student groups such as CURED, ECo., Plastic Free NIST, FashioNIST, and Edibubble, we explored ongoing initiatives, engaged in hands-on learning, and deepened our understanding of more responsible and sustainable choices. Parent groups also contributed, supporting and enriching these shared learning experiences.

These moments not only celebrated existing action but also made visible the everyday choices that shape a more sustainable campus.

Food Waste and Composting

Attention then turned to food systems and how waste can be reduced more effectively. Through The Life Cycle of a NIST Plate video, students explored how simple everyday actions, such as mindful portioning and proper food waste disposal, can help reduce waste and support our school’s composting system.

Developed by students in collaboration with the facilities, catering, and communications teams, the video also highlighted practical approaches already in place at NIST.

Workshops led by parents and community members extended this learning beyond school, offering simple, actionable ideas that can be applied at home.

Systems for Tomorrow

The week concluded with reflection and forward thinking. Students across the school engaged in discussions, advocacy prompts, and shared activities that explored how we can strengthen our collective impact.

Alongside celebrating existing student-led groups and projects, the community also collected data, reflected together, and made pledges for continued action.

From green attire to community commitments, the focus was on building shared practices that continue beyond Earth Week and into everyday life.

Everyday Actions, Lasting Impact

Earth Week was not a standalone event; it reflected an ongoing commitment to a Greener Campus.

Across NIST, behavioural signage now encourages small but meaningful choices, from using the stairs to reducing paper use. These daily actions connect directly to broader sustainability initiatives, including monitoring energy use and reinforcing our No Idling policy to protect air quality.

This approach reflects a deeper understanding that wellbeing and sustainability are closely connected. The health of our environment directly shapes the wellbeing of our community, and the choices we make each day contribute to both.

Moving Forward Together

Earth Week at NIST reflects who we are as a community: thoughtful, engaged, and committed to making a positive impact.

By connecting learning with action, and individual choices with collective responsibility, we continue to nurture students who are not only academically capable but also mindful, compassionate, and prepared to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
As we look ahead, we continue to ask, how can we do better, together?

As a not-for-profit international school in Bangkok, NIST continues to invest in sustainability, wellbeing, and learning experiences that support students in shaping a more responsible future.
