At NIST International School in Bangkok, learning extends far beyond academic success. Through programmes such as the Global Citizen Diploma and the International Award, students develop leadership, resilience and a strong sense of global citizenship.
This spirit was on full display as the NIST community gathered to celebrate the inaugural Global Citizen Diploma (GCD) & International Award (IA) Night, an evening dedicated to recognising students whose dedication, perseverance, and global-mindedness embody the school's values.
Families, teachers and peers came together to honour students who achieved the Silver and Gold International Awards and those who completed the Global Citizen Diploma and Diploma with Distinction, two programmes that challenge students to grow as leaders, thinkers and active contributors to society.
The evening was more than a ceremony. It was a celebration of commitment, purpose and the extraordinary journeys our students undertake as they develop the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an interconnected world.

What is the Global Citizen Diploma?
The Global Citizen Diploma (GCD) is one of NIST’s distinctive programmes designed to help students engage deeply with the complex issues shaping our world.
Through research, ethical reflection and authentic engagement, students explore topics such as sustainability, social justice and global responsibility. The programme encourages them to examine challenges from multiple perspectives while considering the role they can play in creating meaningful change.
By completing the Global Citizen Diploma, students develop not only strong analytical and critical thinking skills but also a deeper understanding of empathy, responsibility and ethical leadership. It is a powerful example of how global citizenship education can be meaningfully embedded within an international school environment.
The International Award: A Journey of Growth and Resilience
Alongside the Global Citizen Diploma, the International Award programme provides students with a powerful opportunity to develop resilience, independence and leadership through real-world experiences.
Participants commit to a multi-year journey that includes community service, skill development, physical recreation and adventurous expeditions. These experiences challenge students to step outside their comfort zones, collaborate with others and build confidence in their abilities.
Achieving the Gold International Award represents years of sustained dedication and perseverance. It is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects a student’s determination to pursue personal growth while contributing positively to their community.

What Students Experience in These Programmes
Students participating in the International Award programme take part in meaningful service initiatives, physical challenges, skills development and outdoor expeditions that encourage teamwork, resilience and leadership.
Within the Global Citizen Diploma, students investigate global challenges, reflect on ethical questions, and engage with community initiatives related to sustainability, equity, and global responsibility.
Together, these programmes allow students to apply their learning beyond the classroom while developing confidence, empathy and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Recognising Extraordinary Student Achievement
The inaugural Global Citizen Diploma & International Award Night highlighted the inspiring journeys behind these achievements.
From the demanding expeditions required for the Gold International Award to the thoughtful ethical explorations undertaken by Global Citizen Diploma recipients, the evening celebrated students who have demonstrated leadership, creativity and commitment well beyond traditional academic expectations.
These awards reflect years of persistence, reflection and service. More importantly, they represent the values that define the NIST community: curiosity, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility for the world around us.

Preparing Students to Flourish in a Changing World
As a leading international school in Bangkok, NIST places strong emphasis on programmes that encourage students to explore their passions, take initiative and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Programmes such as the Global Citizen Diploma and International Award play an important role in this mission. They empower students to develop the skills, confidence and mindset needed to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
The inaugural GCD & IA Night celebrated more than individual accomplishments. It recognised a generation of students who are prepared to lead with purpose, think critically and contribute positively to society.
At NIST, these experiences are an essential part of helping students truly Flourish Together.
