Our Parents
At NIST we encourage parents and carers from all cultures, backgrounds and year level groups to be involved in our school community.
As a parent or carer in the NIST community, we will invite you to attend Parent Sessions on a wide variety of topics ranging from safe technology use and examination preparation for your children, to curriculum articulation and college preparation, as well as coffee mornings with presentations by the Head of School or visiting guest speakers.
When you join NIST you will be welcomed by members of NIPTA, as well as by members of your Cultural Group.
NIPTA
The NIST International School Parent-Teacher Association (NIPTA) is a diverse volunteer organisation with a clear mission to inspire, empower and enrich NIST’s diverse community in ways that further the vision of the school. Comprising parents from differing cultures and backgrounds, NIPTA works closely with school leaders and staff in supporting the growth and success of every child. The group strives to:
- Enhance parental involvement in a range of school events and opportunities
- Strengthen the relationships among parents, students, staff, leadership and the board, as well as with the broader community in which we live
- Facilitate the flow of information between parents and NIST administration.
NIPTA actively welcomes new families to NIST and encourages participation in cultural groups–our wonderfully active parent groups that are formed by a sharing of culture and language.
NIPTA also sponsors cultural festivals and organises orientation tours or activities to help new NISTies feel at home in Bangkok. A variety of social and fundraising events and activities are held throughout the year that promote networking and community participation, including Pinktober, Earth Week, and two of the community’s biggest events of the year, Starry Nights and the Festive Craft Market.
Volunteers in NIPTA promote NIST Falcons sports teams, provide assistance for musical and theatrical performances, and work with class parent representatives for each year group. As well, sustainability-focused volunteers help run the NISTly Used second hand uniform stall, an annual Garage Sale, and the NIST Recycling Station.
Through NIPTA, parents have the opportunity to play an active role in their children’s education, strengthening the relationship between home and school, and helping our community thrive.

Cultural Groups
NIST cultural groups are a community within a community, providing recognition and respect for the diversity of our campus community and the 90-plus nationalities represented.
Our cultural group (CG) communities are a great way to connect with and find additional support from other NIST families who share a similar language and cultural background. The groups also allow for all cultures within our school community to be represented at many different campus events, including our annual internationally-focused Starry Nights event, and individual country celebration days.
How cultural groups decide to organise themselves, and how often they meet, is up to CG members, led by the CG representative/s, a role held by a parent volunteer. Some groups arrange regular monthly lunches, some meet to organise on-campus events, and others enjoy evening socials and cultural dinners.
Cultural group volunteer representatives work closely with school support staff and with NIPTA, our parent-teacher association, to organise and promote many different social and cultural events. These events are an amazing opportunity for parents to showcase their culture and traditions to the entire NIST community, while promoting diversity, acceptance and inclusion to our young students.
