Technical Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of relevant international accounting standards and their applicability to NIST
  • Strong computer skills, including experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and online collaborative tools
  • Familiarity with how information technology can be leveraged to provide accurate, relevant and timely financial information
  • Ability to design useful and transparent management reports to aid in decision making
  • Experience in professional accounting firms is an advantage


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field
  • Master’s degree is highly desirable
  • Membership in a recognized Thai or international professional accounting body such as certified public accountant (CPA), chartered accountant (CA) or ACCA.

Other Qualifications

  • Fluency or near fluency in English
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance roles
  • Proven experience in process improvement, project management and change management as pertaining to finance
  • Maturity and strong leadership skills
  • Strong data analytical skills to review and analyze financial information to support decision making
  • High degree of communication and presentation skills
  • People-oriented professional with integrity, empathy and a positive attitude
  • Adaptability and logical thinking skills
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Experience in a school environment and knowledge of the role of finance in improving student outcomes is an advantage

Oversee management of the school’s finances

  • Lead the Finance & Accounting Department to ensure sound financial management of the school in accordance with accepted best practice
  • Oversee the school’s internal control environment pertaining to finance, accounting and supply chain processes
  • Provide relevant financial information to the to the Head of School to support informed decision making including (but not limited to) decisions about large capital expenditure and school expansion.
  • Lead the development of performance measures and monitoring systems that support the achievement of the school’s strategic plan with respect to finance
  • Champion risk management at NIST, and understand and mitigate key elements of the school’s risk profile with respect to finance
  • Prepare annual and monthly management reports that show the profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow positions of the school
  • Oversee the treasury and cash management requirements for the school, ensuring that the schools cash needs are met and that there is optimization of interest revenue
  • Oversee the external audit process and manage the relationship with external and internal auditors
  • Supervise the accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and fixed asset functions
  • Champion the school’s fee policy and ensure that all revenue due to the school is collected on a timely basis
  • Keep abreast of technology tools and ensure the best use of technology in the financial management of the school
  • Ensure that all necessary records are maintained in an acceptable manner
  • Research cost effectiveness of various aspects of the school’s operations in both the academic and non-academic areas
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to the finance and accounting staff to ensure compliance with agreed processes as well as their individual career development

Ensure effective budgetary procedures and operations are in place

  • Lead the development of the annual budget for the entire school
  • Engage with key budget holders in budget formulation and planning to ensure their commitment and accountability to the management of school financial resources
  • Ensure that effective controls on the receipt and distribution of goods are exercised
  • Report against budget every month and provide full transparency of budget position to budget holders and the Head of School as needed

Oversee internal control environment

  • Establish/maintain internal control systems to meet accounting and auditing standards, and provide internal control guidelines for other relevant departments
  • Oversee the implementation of agreed internal control recommendations from both external and internal auditors
  • Liaise with external auditor regarding annual statutory audit and regular internal audit
  • Ensure high standards of financial reporting and statutory reporting, compliant to local laws and corporate regulations
  • Ensure the audit reports are issued with all recommendations agreed and accepted by the Head of School and board
  • Review all critical contracts entered into by the school and make recommendations to the Head of School for renewal or amendment; where necessary, seek legal advice with respect to these contracts

Coordinate with board members and senior leaders in advancing the school’s mission and vision

  • Meet with the Head of School regularly and keep them fully informed at all times on the state of the financial affairs of the school
  • Provide meaningful input to the strategic planning process, including any necessary financial data
  • Review finance policies on a regular basis and provide recommendations to the Head of School
  • Prepare for and meaningfully participate in meetings of the NIST Executive School Board and any committees as required
  • Complete any additional assignments as designated by the Head of School
