NIST is seeking a Spanish A teacher to work in our Community Language Programme. Spanish lessons are scheduled during the school day alongside other languages in the school. The Spanish A teacher is engaged by NIST on behalf of the parents who pay a fee for the lessons. Support for the teacher including curriculum and general unit plans are available as teachers of other languages teach around a core curriculum. However there is scope for the Spanish A teacher to include content which is specific to the demands of the language.

This role will require:

  • Teaches Spanish language, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and presenting
  • Bases instruction on the NIST curriculum outcomes and units
  • Teaches an age range which will include both elementary and secondary students
  • Uses a variety of instruction strategies based on the age and readiness of students
  • Differentiates for students of different abilities
  • Manages student behaviour positively to achieve a productive learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Uses a range of assessment methods as instructed and prepares reports each semester
  • Communicates with parents  according to the school agreements
  • Maintains  attendance and other records as expected
  • Attends professional development training as and when deemed appropriate by the school
  • Participates in student-teacher conferences
  • Participate in department meetings as agreed
