International Award (IA)
NIST is proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (IA) to our students, an award that encourages and rewards students for their commitment and dedication to lifelong personal development.
The International Award is an excellent way for students to gain recognition for their hard work and to get a true sense of personal accomplishment. It also helps to build character and develop leadership skills, all while fostering a sense of responsibility and resilience.
At NIST, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is highly valued and students are encouraged to take part. The award is seen as a valuable addition to our Learning Programme, linking in with and building upon our Expeditions and Service Learning programmes. The award enables students to further develop leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills, and provides greater opportunity for students to get involved in our local community and develop their own sense of social responsibility.
Students work through three different award levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold as they engage in the award, starting from Year 10 through to Year 13. Four sections of the award enable students to complete activities in Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills and Adventurous Journey, while gold level students also complete a residential programme.
