World Languages
We believe that multilingualism is vital to the development of global citizens who are equipped to thrive in an interconnected world.
Our World Language pathways provide students with access to a diverse range of language choices, with twelve languages available during the school day and additional options after school. We take great pride in the number of students who graduate with an IB Bilingual Diploma. This is a testament to our students' dedication and proficiency in multiple languages.
Home Language (Language A)
The Home Language (Language A) pathway offers a robust framework for nurturing the languages spoken at home while fostering a deep connection to students' cultural heritage. As part of the regular school day curriculum, we provide twelve languages within this pathway throughout the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes. In addition to the Home Languages we offer, IB Diploma Programme students can enrol in school-supported self-taught courses and online language learning courses to expand the language options available to our students.
Language Acquisition (Language B)
The Language Acquisition (Language B) pathway allows students to immerse themselves in a new language, facilitating personal growth and expanding their global perspective. We offer four languages integrated into the regular school day curriculum within this pathway, accommodating various proficiency levels across all three IB programmes. Additionally, the IB Diploma Programme features Language ab initio, allowing students the flexibility to embark on a new language journey as senior students.
NIST currently offers the following languages during our school day curriculum:

In addition to the twelve Home Languages offered during the school day, our After-school Language Programme provides a range of additional languages as well. We currently offer languages such as Catalan, Traditional Chinese, Italian, and Russian, and we continue to expand our after-school language options based on need.
World Languages is an integral part of our learning programme. We embrace and encourage the use of multiple languages to foster identity and cultural understanding. Beginning in the Early Years in the PYP, all students learn Thai, our host country language. In Year 2, families have the opportunity to choose between the Home Language pathway or the Language Acquisition pathway which can be continued throughout the MYP and DP. We are proud to share that over half of our IB Diploma students graduate with the recognition of the Bilingual IB Diploma.
