NIST Earns Dual Championships at Super SEASAC Tournament

Nov 3, 2015

On Friday, 9 October NIST International School marked the 20th anniversary of the South East Asia Student Activities Conference by hosting the 2015 Super SEASAC Volleyball & Football Tournaments. 26 teams, 312 players and over 40 coaches were welcomed by a Thai long drum procession for a weekend of sporting competition and camaraderie.

The opening speech was delivered by our very own Mr. Paul Hodgkinson, who on behalf of NIST was a founding chair of SEASAC 20 years ago. The organization has since become one of the largest international school leagues in Asia. For this event four sports tournaments were held simultaneously, with the NIST athletes defending their home advantage in both boys and girls football, and boys and girls volleyball. The first day kicked off with some fierce competition between all teams and plenty of support shown from parents and students alike cheering on the Falcons.

By the end of the tournament the boys and girls volleyball teams emerged as champions, with the boys football team narrowly missing the top prize and earning runner-up honors. Our girls football team gave a valiant effort and finished in 6th place. After a strong showing of support by the NIST community as a whole, along with a great weekend of competition, fun, new friendships and building stronger relationships with our regional neighbors, the NIST community can be proud of what was accomplished both on and off the field.

In other BISAC sporting news the NIST U15 boys rugby team and the U13 girls tennis team were both champions at the Bangkok International School Athletic Conference (BISAC) events, hosted the same weekend at Bangkok Patana School. Congratulations to all of our Falcons for representing our community with distinction, and well done to all the other athletes that represented the Falcons on the weekend at the BISAC events around Bangkok. A full write-up on results is located on the sports blog.
