The Joy of Sustainability
We want our students to make a genuine impact on the world through their decisions and actions. Environmental sustainability therefore permeates our learning programme, operational systems and physical infrastructure at NIST. It is vital that we help students understand the worlds’ problems, make them aware of current solutions and—critically—offer them real opportunities to be part of the change. We also know that we are accountable to our community to incorporate sustainability principles into the design of our buildings. Through renewable energy sources like solar panels, upcycling existing materials into new classrooms, creating an organic café, deploying recycled furniture and more, we have sought to consistently embed sustainable practices into our school.
Why Should You Donate?
Sustainability requires a concerted community effort. Though the long-term impact will enable our school to be self-sustaining, particularly in our environmental impact, shifting systems and materials incurs additional costs in the present. When donating to NIST you can choose from a number of projects that will bring us closer and closer to our vision of being a school with strongly embedded renewable energy sources, recycling and upcycling initiatives, and green practices. Rehoming our spirit tree represents only one of many efforts to transform the NIST campus, and all of these projects further support student service groups like NISTBricks, PlasticFree NIST, Rescued Glass, E Co. and Second Chance NIST, as well as our Eco Schools team.
